Data Quality Connector for Siebel 7.8 is Validated
Successfully-managed data quality enhances customer understanding, while increasing the effectiveness of target marketing, solidifying customer relationships and providing enhanced service and delivery. Enterprise systems like Siebel 7.8 magnify and extend these benefits by sharing data across enterprises. With this in mind, Group 1 created the Data Quality Connector for Siebel 7.8, offering our customers a powerful, versatile solution that optimizes their Siebel Systems data quality management. Group 1 is pleased to announce that this Connector was recently validated and is now available.
The Data Quality Connector for Siebel 7.8 is an integrated solution that provides accurate and consolidated account, customer and prospect data by formatting name information, verifying address information and merging duplicate records. It enables joint customers of Siebel Systems and Group 1 to verify and correct address data for the United States and over 220 other countries and dependencies worldwide.
Offering highly-robust record consolidation, this Connector can operate in either manual or automatic mode. It enables users to preserve previously-entered information when consolidating duplicate records and to merge new data into existing records without disrupting the workflow.
The Data Quality Connector for Siebel 7.8 also features business name standardization via integration with Dunn & Bradstreet, allowing users to identify accounts that exist in the Dunn & Bradstreet database. The ability to tap into Dunn & Bradstreet’s accurate store of information amplifies the power of this Connector's duplicate identification ability. In addition, this Connector enables customers to perform case conversions and add punctuation and titles to account, contact and prospect data.
Engineered to be the superior integrated data quality solution for Siebel 7.8, this Connector also:
- Supports Siebel Web, Dedicated Web and Mobile clients
- Provides an Intelligent Merge option that automatically carries forward previously-entered information to the surviving record when merging duplicate records
- Provides a rich set of options, configurable by a Siebel administrator through an easy-to-use Graphical User Interface (GUI)
- Provides all data quality functions in interactive and batch mode
- Provides an easy-to-recognize color indicator, denoting record level status of the Data Quality functions
For more information on Group 1's Data Quality solutions, please contact Anthony Aruldoss, Director of Product Management, Data Quality Connectors, at Anthony_Aruldoss@g1.com.
Horizons 2006 – Another Successful Year

With record attendance and nods of approval for the sessions and speakers, Horizons 2006 was a definite success. Hands-on product labs, new tracks and sessions gave customers many options for learning new information about Group 1 products or just refreshing what they already knew. Chicago, IL was the place to be in July. The Group 1 party was a nice break from the sessions and learning; everyone relaxed, played games and enjoyed the evening.
It's not too early to make plans for next summer. Don't miss out on another great conference sponsored by Group 1. Horizons 2007 will be held in Boston, MA, from July 18 – 20, 2007.

Customer Success Stories: The Power of Education
The Education department prides itself on delivering exceptional customer service. Alan Montague, a Senior Software Application Instructor, relates this recent example of how our instructors help our customers exceed their goals:
“An insurance company purchased StreamWeaver to merge their statement and invoice processing utilizing a new inserter. They had purchased some professional services as well and they were busy creating the runs for the new inserter. During the product overview at the beginning of the course we examined the various ways that different customers use StreamWeaver. When I described StreamWeaver’s ability to send specific mail pieces to a separate file for specialized handling, the Mail Center Manager who attended the overview suddenly became rather excited.
“He described a problem they were having: They had purchased a 'black box' system to send out their letters and policy documents. Most of their customers paid for their six-month policies in four installments, the first due before the start of the policy and the next three due 30 days after each other. If a customer missed a payment they received a warning letter and after seven days their policy was cancelled and a cancellation notice was sent. If a check was received after this point the policy was reinstated. However, when this happened all of the policy documents were resent to the customer and the cover letter stated that 'your new six-month policy' was dated the day it was sent. A situation had arisen whereby someone made a claim after the expiration date of the policy but less than six months from when they received the document with the 'new six-month policy' wording for the second time. Not surprisingly, they sued claiming that they believed they were covered.
“Word came down from senior management to stop sending out these letters, but since this system was a 'black box' they were unable to suppress the creation of these letters. To solve this problem, they implemented a manual system whereby on Monday through Thursday the policy documents were printed and inserted but not mailed. On Friday morning the staff of the mailroom joined with the admin staff (and perhaps a few temps) and went through the trays of mail to match items off a pull list that the system had created.
“I asked the Mail Center Manager where the list came from and he told me that the list was created and updated whenever a policy got re-enlivened. This was the one enhancement they had been able to get cheaply from the suppliers of the system. I said that StreamWeaver could look at this list before the policy was printed and (if the policy number was included on each record on the list) it would send the resulting letter to a separate file that they could either print or not at their discretion. As a result of hearing about this at the class they changed the priority of work for the consultant and within two weeks had eliminated this manual process.”
Improving Documentation Through Customer Feedback
Several months ago, the Documentation department began using a feedback button on all of our PDF documents. To date, we have received four responses from customers that have led to documentation improvements. That sounds like a small number, but those responses have spawned additional changes in other documents.
To date, here are all of the product documents that feature the feedback button:

The feedback button is displayed on every page of our PDF documents. This allows the customer the opportunity to offer comments on specific pages of our guides. Comments may include factual errors, confusing writing, missing information or anything that gets in the way of understanding the topic.
Clicking the button produces a comment form that the customer uses to enter comments. The form automatically includes the document title, the software version, the page being commenting upon and the comments. This form is sent directly to the Documentation department so that the appropriate technical writer can update the document.
Look for more product documents that feature the feedback button in the future!
