In order to provide our MVS and IMS customers with a more streamlined installation process, we have modified the way our products are delivered. To facilitate the 'ready to run' executables, as documented in customer communication AAA000T1605, the way in which Group 1 packages all product updates has changed. As a result, users no longer need to use IEBUPDTE to extract the object modules after the FTP step. To extract the object and/or load modules, users must now use the IKJEFT01 program. The MVSPATCH.jcl that is supplied with the product updates has been modified to use the correct program for extracting the object and/or load modules.
For any user that has customized JCL in place to install Group 1 product updates, the following JCL lines should be used to replace any existing IEBUPDTE or IEBCOPY processing:
//RECEIVE EXEC PGM=IKJEFT01,REGION=1500K
//SYSTSPRT DD SYSOUT=*
//SYSTSIN DD *
RECEIVE INDSN('yourhlq1.ppp.OBJ')
DATASET('yourhlq2.prdct.OBJLIB') VOL(volum2)
RECEIVE INDSN('yourhlq1.ppp.LOAD')
DATASET('yourhlq2.prdct.LOADLIB') VOL(volum2)
In a July 7, 2005 letter addressed to CASS Developers, Janice E. Caldwell of the USPS wrote:
"The current 2004-2005 CASS, Cycle I, will be extended one month until August 31, 2005.
Customers may continue to use their Cycle I CASS CertifiedTM address matching products to qualify for automation discounts through August 31, 2005. The 2005-2006 (Cycle J) CASS Certified software must be implanted no later than August 31, 2005. All customers are encouraged to implement the 2005-2006 CASS Certified address matching software at the earliest opportunity.
All commercial CASSTM address matching product developers and vendors are required to comply with the 2005-2006 (Cycle J) address-quality initiatives effective September 1, 2005.
The CASS 2004-2005 Cycle I extension does not apply to MASS certified product users. Multiline Optical Character Readers (MLOCR) users and presort bureaus must implemented the 2005-2006 CASS address matching software provided by their vendor and obtain MASS certification by August 12, 2005.
The provisions of this extension were established cooperatively with representatives of the mailing industry and software vendors. We are confident that customers appreciate the efforts we are making to enhance address quality through the CASS initiatives and that they will implement products reflecting these enhancements at the earliest opportunity."
Additional information can be obtained from the CASS Department of the USPS by calling 800-642-2914.
Canada Post Corporation (CPC) has requested that Group 1, as a software vendor, inform our customers of a recurring problem with the submission of Statements of Accuracy (SOA). CPC has noted that the majority of Statements of Accuracy are being submitted without completed mailer information. Per regulations ALL Statements of Accuracy should include the exact name, address and customer number of the customer file that is being processed.
Canadian CODE-1 Plus provides an area on the Statement of Accuracy for this information to be entered. Canadian CODE-1 Plus also includes an option to have the CUSTOMER NAME and CUSTOMER ADDRESS entered in the job setup to be printed out on the Statement of Address Accuracy when it is produced. Currently there is no software provision to have the customer number entered in the job setup to be printed out on the CUSTOMER CPC NUMBER line. A change request has been entered and this functionality will be included in a future release.
At this time, to have Canadian CODE-1 Plus temporarily print the Customer CPC Number on the Statement of Accuracy, the last Customer Address Line can be used. Further details on this are provided in letter number C6z302T1705, available on the Group 1 Web site, http://www.g1.com/Support, log in to Support, Documentation, Customer Communications.
According to DM News:
"The U.S. Postal Service debuts an address correction service July 17 that aims to fix minor errors in mailers' address lists,
such as incorrect or transposed letters in a street name, missing directionals and abbreviations that prevent accurate barcoding.
The USPS said the Address Element Correction Service Level 2 tool will improve the speed and accuracy of mail delivery and can avoid
repetitive correction of the same customer record. AEC II enhances the existing basic service, begun in the early 1990s.
'Major mailers have been asking us to create this service for them,' said George T. Hurst, brand manager of direct mail at the USPS.
The postal service said millions of addresses in mailers' files have been examined and corrected with the tool, which produces a
diagnostic report about the mailers' list management practices. Current electronic success rates average 35 percent to 50 percent of the
previously unmatched addresses.
With AEC II, bad addresses that the basic service cannot resolve are submitted electronically to delivery offices for correction.
Delivery units perform this correction through information from carriers and clerks. Hurst said the new service is one of several tools
that the USPS is working on to reduce undeliverable-as-addressed mail. At the National Postal Forum last spring, Postmaster General John
E. Potter said he wants to cut UAA mail 50 percent."
For more information concerning the AEC II, please visit the DM News Web site at http://www.dmnews.com.
