Canada Post Corporation recently announced that effective October 21, 2002, the province code of "NF" will become invalid and users must begin using "NL" to represent the province name change on that implementation date. To clarify the use of the "NL" and the use of "NF", we asked CPC typical questions concerning the conversation at our recent Group 1 User's Conference.

G1: Should "NF" always be changed to "NL"?
CPC: Yes

G1: Are "NF" to "NL" changes going to reflect as changes versus valid on a SERP report?
CPC: Yes

G1: What is the official spelling of the new province?
CPC: Newfoundland and Labrador

G1: Are there any acceptable alternate abbreviations or spellings for validation for this province?
CPC: Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador

G1: From an address accuracy perspective and software usage, what happens before and after the October 21, 2002 implementation date?
CPC: The option to run address accuracy before or after the target date is a valid option. If run after the October 21st, all "NF" will become invalid and will reduce the customer's address accuracy percentage or the software will simply correct - depending on the complexity of the address and if it is correctable. If run before October 21st then the statement [of accuracy] is good for one year from that date. Keeping in mind that, for all intents and purposes, we should have no problems processing "NF" in the future - the adoption of "NL" as soon as possible after the October 21st deadline will help ensure that mail is directed to the intended destination in the most efficient manner possible.

With record attendance and nods of approval for the sessions and speakers, Horizons 2002 was definitely a success. New tracks and sessions gave customers many options for learning new information about products or just refreshing what they already knew. Chicago was the place to be in July. The Block Party was a nice break from the sessions and learning; everyone relaxed and enjoyed the evening.

The drawing based on the Conference Evaluations was held. All Conference Evaluations turned in were included in the drawing. The winners of the three Sony Clies are Wendy King, Dawn Vodehnal, and Melissa Zahn. Congratulations to all three winners!

It's not too early to make plans for next summer. Don't miss out on another great conference sponsored by Group 1. Horizons 2003 will be held in Washington, DC, at the OmniShoreham, from July 28 - August 1, 2003.

Delivery Point Validation (DPV) is a new United States Postal Service (USPS) offering. DPV enables you to verify that an actual address exists, down to the suite or apartment number, helping you to virtually eliminate undelivered as addressed mail. Below you will find some key points you may want to know:
  • Dramatically reduce postage, processing, labor and delivery costs from bad address data.
  • Increase customer satisfaction by providing accurate delivery of goods and services.
  • Available through CODE-1 Plus, the industry's leading address data quality solution.

Please Click Here for more information concerning Delivery Point Validation.

. . .Users of CODE-1 Plus are reminded to immediately install and update their software and databases to Version 2.5.0 in order to comply with the July 31, 2002 USPS CASS cycle update. CODE-1 Plus V2.5.0 can be used prior to the compliance date. Also, users are required to download and install a permanent license file in order to get CODE-1 Plus V2.5.0 to operate in production. Refer to the "What's New in CODE-1 Plus 2.5" in your shipping materials or visit www.g1.com/Support/dspavldocs.asp for further details.

. . . Did you know that the current issue of the DMM, as well as the Quick Reference Guides, are available on the USPS website in PDF format? Visit http://pe.usps.gov for more information. You can perform searches as well as open the documents and save them to a disk.

A few customers have reported having problems downloading our databases from the Web site. If you are having problems with downloading our databases, it may be because you are using a Download Manager application. Currently the Group 1 Web site does not support the use of most Download Manager applications. Attempting to use one will most likely result in an error page that reads “Request Disallowed”. If you are using a Download Manager, you must disable the application which allows your browser to manage the download process itself. Currently version 5.x and above of Internet Explorer and Netscape are supported by our Web site.

Because many Download Manager applications are considered “freeware” and will automatically load during the installation of another application (such as your browser), you may not have been aware that you were running one. If you are uncertain that you are, or do not know how to disable it, please contact your IT/Operations personnel.

Currently, this issue only occurs when attempting to download the databases, however, Product Updates, software, and documentation will be impacted in the near future. For additional information, such as a listing of some common free Download Manager applications, please click here to visit this FAQ.
