. . . According to the USPS PAVE Department, "PAVE testing for Cycle
F will be based on the timeline of R2001-1. It is our GOAL to begin
testing as early as possible - hopefully at least 120 days before
implementation. Of course this is dependent on decisions made by
the Board of Governors - which is out of our control." Group 1 has
been meeting and reviewing the proposed rate case changes. Users
interested in the rate case may obtain more information from www.usps.gov,
www.prc.gov or participation from
any industry association.
. . . Group 1 recently attended the IDEAlliance (formerly GCA) Addressing/Distribution
Joint Meeting with the US Postal Service. At that meeting, Jerry
Cerasale, DMA Sr. Vice President of Government Affairs, mentioned
that 92% of DMA members say no change in mailing schedules based
on initial rate case filing. Cerasale also commented on Rate Case
Settlement proposals. According to members, it is not a matter of
whether there is a rate case, it is a matter of when the rate case
is going to happen.
. . . Mailers are asked to send an email to 100FLATS@EMAIL.USPS.GOV
if your mailings have experience damaged covers. The USPS needs
input from industry users on the characteristics of your mailing
and is trying to identify the problem areas in the mailing production.
. . . Attention CODE-1 Plus Customers. By now you should be using
CODE-1 Plus version 2.4.0 which was released in the Spring of this
year. If you are still using CODE-1 Plus 2.3.0, please be aware
that this version will cease to function on February 1st, 2002.
It is highly recommended that you upgrade to version 2.4.0 if you
haven't already done so, to avoid an unnecessary interruption of
service.

Beginning in late December with the release of the January
subscription databases for CODE-1 Plus, MailStream Plus, Canadian
CODE-1 Plus, and Mail Canada Plus, products will be available
for Internet downloading as well as the normal distribution
of the databases on media. Each "Ship To" contact holding
a valid subscription license and a valid email address or fax
number will be notified via email or fax the minute that their
subscription database becomes available for downloading from
the website. This email/fax
message will provide database information, instructions, and
the direct links to the appropriate product and download page.
For those of you concerned about download times, here is a rough
estimate of the size of the compressed databases:
- US Postal Database=+/-327meg
- USPS Reference File=+/-5meg
- Canadian Postal Database-+/-40meg
- CPC Reference File-+/-1meg
You download the appropriate database to an Intel based PC.
Uncompress the downloaded file, transfer uncompressed file(s)
to the target platform, and install per provided instructions.
Quick and simple - beats the media delivery by up to three days
or more.
Product Distribution Services (PDS), as always, seeks your
input regarding this new feature. We would like details: your
likes, your dislikes, any suggestions, etc. Please email all
comments to pds@g1.com.
This new feature will be expanded to include additional databases based on a positive reaction from you, our customers.
Group 1 Software recently announced that it has joined the
Business Partner Program of Redlands, California-based ESRI,
the world leader in GIS software. With this agreement, ArcIMS,
ESRI's GIS for the Internet, will be integrated into Group 1's
DM1 enterprise marketing automation system.
The integration of ArcIMS with Group 1's DM1 enterprise marketing automation solution provides a gateway to increased
customer understanding, service and retention through powerful mapping, data visualization, site location, and routing
capabilities. ArcIMS enables users to integrate local data sources with Internet data sources for display, query, and analysis
in an easy-to-use Web browser.
DM1 offers essential data hygiene and enhancement capabilities by integrating Group 1's leading data quality solutions
and provides analysis through ad hoc query and OLAP (on-line analytical processing) tools, data visualization, modeling
and reporting, and campaign management. With this new and robust mapping functionality, DM1 users can develop a profile
of best customers by physical address, measure store performance by geography, or conduct drive-time analyses to guide
site location.
"This alliance with ESRI will enable us to strengthen significantly our mapping and data visualization capabilities,
integral components of DM1," said Bob Bowen, CEO of Group 1 Software. "With this innovative technology, our customers
can develop, execute and measure marketing campaigns more effectively."
"We are excited that Group 1 has joined the ESRI Business Partner Program," said Dave Wieseler, director of ESRI's
Business Partner Program. "The powerful combination of Group 1's data quality solutions and ESRI's leading GIS products
provide enhanced intelligence for more focused target marketing efforts."
