Federal Agency Relies on Geocoding to Automate Flood Damage Claims Process

A Federal Government Agency sought a software solution that would improve the speed and efficiency of its disaster-related claims processing. Group 1 Software’s geocoding technology enabled it to automate the process of matching claims addresses with flood plain maps.

The Challenge

Location Intelligence

Because natural disasters don’t conform to jurisdictional and ZIP code boundaries, it was a difficult and time-consuming process for the Agency to verify that a given address was in a location eligible for flood-related damage assistance.

Manual Processes

The existing claims verification process was primarily manual, and could require an adjuster to travel to the site.

Inefficiencies and Delays

The effort required to root out fraudulent claims was resource-intensive and impacted the Agency’s ability to process legitimate claims in a timely manner.

The Solution

Process Automation

Working with Group 1 Software, the Agency implemented a geocoding solution that included GeoStan™, Spatial+ and other software to enable the automation of the flood plain mapping process

Address Correction and Geocoding

First, the solution allows the Agency to more quickly and more efficiently process flood-related claims by correcting, standardizing and associating geographic coordinates with a given street address.

Spatial Analysis

Then, the Agency can employ spatial analysis to determine if the address is in the geographic area eligible for financial assistance.

The Benefit

Improved Accuracy and Efficiency

By employing Group 1 Software’s geocoding technology, the Agency was able to greatly improve the speed and efficiency of the flood plain mapping process.

More Rapid Response

This translates into more rapid response for disaster victims.
