The design of the new statement drove our new requirements for a document composition system. The new statement uses graphics as well as one-to-one marketing messages and we found that there were just a couple of companies who could deliver all our requirements and run in a high-volume production environment.

Getting Smart About Intelligent Mail®
Provides insight into the 2009 USPS® Intelligent Mail Barcode (IMB) requirements and how you can leverage and optimize the new intelligence across your mailstream.
CODE-1 Plus™ - Available Modules
Delivery Point Validation
Delivery Point Validation is a USPS-based system available through CODE-1 Plus™ that enables users to verify that an address actually exists. DPV™ validates the existence of both the primary and secondary address number and can determine whether an address is a Commercial Mail Receiving Agent housing private mail boxes at a distribution location. When DPV™ is used in conjunction with CODE-1 Plus™, the system can perform more lookups to attempt to identify and resolve multiple match situations.
- Attend to multiple match addresses
- DPV™ footnote intelligence codes
- CMRA determination
- Validate primary and secondary numbers and unit designators
Attend to Multiple Match Addresses
When two addresses are very similar and a possible tie is encountered where a unique address cannot be selected, the DPV™ routine can inspect both the house and secondary unit information. Upon the inspection, if a house or secondary unit is not valid, this assists CODE-1 Plus™ in eliminating the match selection or breaking ties.
Intelligence Codes
DPV™ provides intelligence codes for each record that identifies the magnitude of failure and assists you in the correction process. An example would be “Primary House Number Valid, but Secondary Unit is Missing on Input.”
CMRA Determination
CMRA determination is important when you prefer not to send information or products to such address types (where the recipient acts as an agent to receive mail delivery of others). This also allows marketers help validate information upon data entry.
Validation on Primary and Secondary Address Information
The USPS® updates data on a monthly basis to ensure the most current information is available for primary and secondary address information.
Residential Delivery Indicator
Residential Delivery Indicator is used for rate shoppers, shipping rate analysis and shipping vendor selection. The system provides you with a flag indicating whether the address is considered a business or residential address. Unlike the USPS®, third party carriers typically charge delivery accessorial charges for residential addresses. The use of the file assists mailers in determining the best and most cost effective shipping method. RDI data must be licensed directly from the USPS®. Pitney Bowes Group 1 Software is a certified interface vendor and can read and access the RDI file.
RDI is available for users of CODE-1 Plus™ and DPV™ subscribers. RDI can also be embedded within other software products in the partnership program.
- Parcel shippers rate shopping
- Delivery accessorial surcharges
- Address-type indicators
- PO Box or Street Only
Parcel Shippers Rate Shopping
The USPS® program requires that the interface to the RDI file only resides in an environment where rate shopping or rate analysis is performed. Marketers that want to use the data for market analysis or direct marketing efforts are not permitted to use the data for such purposes.
Delivery Accessorial Surcharges
Third party carriers charge clients surcharges based on the characteristics of the package. Surcharges can be as simple as $10 or $15 per address correction or a residential delivery surcharge of approximately $1.40. These fees can be recognized and captured at the time of data entry and address coding.
Address-type Indicators
The RDI tables can return intelligence, whether the address is considered a pure residential, business or mixed business/residential address.
PO Box or Street Only
This permits 3rd party carriers that only require physical street addresses to preserve the street address in a dual address situation to maintain the integrity of the physical mailing address.
