OpenEDMS Platforms and Requirements
In today’s fast paced world of Internet connectivity, virtual offices, and global markets, organizations rely increasingly on systems that are web-based and platform-independent. OpenEDMS has been built from the ground up to be web-based and platform-independent.
System Design
OpenEDMS is built with n-tier system architecture and implemented using Java and C++ programming languages. The foundation layer of the system is based on our OpenEDMS E-Commerce Framework. System deployment requires a Java Servlet (an EJB container is not required) engine that supports Servlet 2.3 Specification as well as a SQL database for the central repository.
There are three tiers in the OpenEDMS server environment: the middleware tier, the database tier, and the file server tier. On the client side, end-users need only a standard web browser application to access the system using a registered login ID and valid password. The OpenEDMS Desktop application is designed to facilitate batch file transfers using familiar drag and drop commands. OpenEDMS supports the WebDAV protocol that allows authorized user to directly access the OpenEDMS server within a familiar Windows environment.
Platforms
OpenEDMS supports the following platforms:
Windows:
- XP
- Windows Server 2000, 2003
- Windows 2000 Professional
Oracle:
- Oracle 10g
Unix:
- AIX
- Sun Solaris
- HP UX
- Linux
System Requirements
System requirements for OpenEDMS end-users are completely platform and hardware independent: only a standard web browser and a working Internet or intranet connection are necessary to access the system.
The following system configuration is recommended for optimal performance:
- A minimum screen resolution of 1024×768
- Browser-enabled JavaScript support
- A 24-bit or greater graphics card
A Java plug-in is required to enable the following applet-based advanced OpenEDMS features (not supported by traditional web browser applications):
- Redaction (mark-up)
- File check-out/check-in
- Drawing signatures
- Workflow template design
