OpenEDMS Image Management
Our OpenEDMS Image Manager, the most diverse and robust document imaging solution available, features image acquisition, compression support, document enhancement, optical character recognition, zone OCR, and barcode recognition.
In addition, the OpenEDMS Image Manager provides general imaging support (bitonal, grayscale, and color) for image processing (transforms, filters, drawing, region of interest), color conversion, display, special effects (choose from more than 2000 effects), compression, image format (import/export), printing, Internet/intranet imaging (Web forms), imaging common dialog, and screen capture.
Features and Benefits
Compression Standards
- Mixed Raster Content (MRC): Uses technique of dividing images into image and text components and then uses compression especially suited for that type of image to get best compression and quality possible
- JBIG: A bitonal image compression that uses several advanced techniques to compress bitonal images with no loss and consistently maintains much better compression ratios as compared to CCITT compression techniques
- JBIG2: Used to read and write files with JBIG2 compression. JBIG2 compression is superior to LZW, TIFF Group 4, and other 1 bit compression
- ABIC: Used to read and write ABIC files. ABIC is a compression format for compressing check images
- CMW: Advanced compression that is better than JPEG2000 in quality, speed and compression ratios
Image Acquisition
- TWAIN: Supports all functionality included in TWAIN v1.9 specification. TWAIN drivers are standard with almost all scanners and other image acquisition hardware. Also, with recent advancements, Fast TWAIN is technology of choice for performance and reliability
Document Enhancement
Document cleanup functions can restore or even improve the scanned image relative to its original document quality:
- Hole punch detection and removal
- Border detection and removal
- Noise detection and removal
- Bump detection and removal
- Inverted text detection and removal
- Line detection and removal
- Despeckle
- Deskew
- Dilation
- Erosion
- Auto Crop
Image Recognition
- Optical Characters: Supports OCR. OCR engine can recognize documents with multiple languages
- Zone OCR: Supports zone OCR, which allows users to set specific areas of documents rather than the whole page to be scanned and converted to characters. Includes auto-zone detection, manual zone creation, and auto-orientation
- Barcodes: Barcodes have been used in document imaging for years to help identify the document, information about the document, or for many other possible reasons. Because barcodes are so useful in document imaging applications, several barcode add-on options are available for purchase to meet your specific application needs
