Centrus Point-Level Geocoding Features and Benefits

Most Precise Geocodes

The accuracy of a geocode assignment can vary based on the method used. Address Level geocoding assigns latitudes and longitudes based on knowing the geocodes at the intersection of the block or street segment containing the address. Point-level geocodes go one step further, returning the latitude and longitude coordinates of actual buildings and parcels where the addresses are physically located.

Most Current Data

To further enhance the accuracy of the Point-Level Geocoding Option, Pitney Bowes Group 1 Software partnered with leading data providers to gather and digitize building and parcel centroid data from hundreds of state, county and local government sources, which have also been verified against digital imagery. This point data is updated monthly and enriched with US Postal Service address and ZIP+4 data.

Cascading Geocoding Logic

Our solutions use point-level data in combination with street-level data, and will cascade to the most accurate possible match. Using proprietary matching algorithms, addresses are compared to both point-level and street-segment data to ensure accurate matches, and to eliminate incorrect matches, also called false-positive matches.

Powerful Business Applications

The Centrus Point-Level Geocoding Option is the most accurate solution for applications that need the most precise geographic placement:

  • Insurance–Flood Zone Determination: These highly detailed areas of geography are very sensitive to even small changes in accuracy, and insurance risk is reduced by having the best information and most precise property location.
  • Insurance–Distance to Coast: Point-level geocoding gives precise information about distance to coast, which is critical in making quick and accurate underwriting decisions for hurricane and tropical storm risk.
  • Tax districts: Our point-level geocodes reduce compliance costs and risks by ensuring superior levels of accuracy for property tax, sales tax, and special tax districts.
  • Online mapping using aerial imagery: Point-level geocodes put the geocode on the exact parcel and, in most cases, right on top of the house.
  • Routing: Delivery and E-911 services depend on high levels of accuracy to perform their jobs efficiently and safely.
  • Utility companies: Call-before-you-dig applications and automated meter-reading systems save time and money by knowing the exact locations of houses.
  • Homeland Security: Point-Level Geocoding helps locate and identify the precise locations of large public and office buildings, hospitals, and industrial facilities, which assists in the planning and response to attacks and other hazards.
