Usha Communications Technology Selects Group 1

Lanham, MD — Group 1 Software (Nasdaq: GSOF) announced today that Usha Communications Technology of Portland, Oregon has selected Group 1's DOC1 product as its preferred electronic document composition system. DOC1 is the fastest way to produce dynamic, easy-to-read, personalized business documents for print and on-line delivery. Usha Communications Technology offers billing and customer care solutions for Integrated Communications Service Providers (ICPs) worldwide. Companies utilizing Unicorn, Usha's convergent customer care and billing system, can easily create targeted billing documents with DOC1.

"Together, DOC1 and Unicorn give operators the power to deliver highly customized, customer-focused invoices," said James Latham, Executive VP of Marketing at Usha Communications Technology. "Unicorn allows operators to target specific groups of customers based on individual demographics or behaviors. DOC1 will help our clients create messages and bill formats that are personalized for each customer."

Unicorn includes a two-way interface that produces data in a file format that DOC1 can easily import. DOC1 can subsequently customize invoices for printing on high-speed laser printers. After composing the billing document, DOC1 relays information back to Unicorn to update the customer information, showing which customers have received invoices and when.

The DOC1 system allows dynamic document applications to be developed in a WYSIWYG environment on a Windows NT workstation. The DOC1 production engine runs under MVS, Windows NT, Windows 2000, UNIX (Sun Solaris, HP/UX and AIX, DEC UNIX), Open VMS, OS/400 or PC DOS. DOC1 is completely printer independent and produces AFP, Metacode, HP/PCL, PostScript, HTML, XML, PDF and line data output.

Group 1 Software is a leading provider of software for data quality, database marketing, electronic document composition applications, and mailing efficiency and direct marketing applications. Group 1 supports MVS, VSE, AS/400, UNIX (including Linux), Windows NT, Windows 2000 and other operating systems and various computers. Group 1 has offices throughout the United States and in Canada, the United Kingdom, and continental Europe; the Miami office serves the Latin American market. The company is also represented in Asia and Australia.
