City of Garland, Texas Chooses Group 1's DOC1 System to Generate and Present Utility Bills Online

Texas' Third Largest Municipal Utility Turns to Group 1's Customer Communications Management Technology

Lanham, MD — In advance of next week's CIS Conference in Miami, Florida, Group 1 Software (Nasdaq: GSOF) today announced that the city of Garland, Texas is implementing Group 1's DOC1 solution. The city will be using DOC1 to manage the creation and on-line presentment of its consolidated utility bill. DOC1 manages every aspect of an organization's critical business documents, from data acquisition and content creation through multi-channel delivery, archiving and web-based customer care. Group 1 will be showcasing DOC1 in booth #135 at the 28th Annual CIS Conference, May 4-6 at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami Beach, Florida.

The City of Garland's utility, the third largest municipal utility in Texas, serves more than 75,000 customers with electricity, water, wastewater treatment, and recycling services. The city will be using DOC1 to create graphically-rich, easy-to-understand utility bills that help reduce billing-related inquiries into the city's call center. The Group 1 technology will also provide the city's customer service representatives and its citizens online access to utility bills. As a result, the utility will be able to provide more efficient customer care and increase first call closure of billing-related inquiries.

“We chose DOC1 due to its ease-of-use and its ability to extract data from our Indus billing system,” said Steve Chervenak, project manager at the City of Garland. “Additionally, Group 1's address verification and postal presort software allows us to ensure accurate bill delivery while maximizing postal savings.”

DOC1 was licensed as a component of the city's upgrade of its legacy customer information system, which is being replaced by technology from Group 1 partner Indus. The city will utilize DOC1 in conjunction with both the core Indus Advantage Customer Management Suite and the Indus PassPort solution for enterprise asset management. “Group 1's DOC1 remains the only all-in-one software solution that delivers both front-end document design and generation and back-end customer care,” said Alan Slater, president of Group 1 Software's DOC1 Division. “Utilities worldwide that want to optimize customer service continue to turn to DOC1 to maximize the effectiveness their customer communications.”
