Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts Selects Group 1 Software to Automate Tax Jurisdiction Assignment
Businesses, Consumers and Local Governments to Benefit With Streamlining of Tax Jurisdiction Assignment Process
Lanham, MD — Group 1 Software (Nasdaq: GSOF) today announced that the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts has selected Group 1's GeoTAX solution to automate the tax jurisdiction assignment process in the state. As the chief financial officer of Texas, the Comptroller collects taxes and fees owed the state and recommends ways of streamlining state government and making it smaller, smarter and faster. Tax jurisdictions in the state are constantly changing. Businesses need to account for a wide array of special purpose taxing districts, such as mass transit districts, that do not necessarily correspond to established geographic boundaries when collecting local option sales taxes.
GeoTAX will provide the Comptroller's office with a comprehensive suite of tools to standardize addresses and append accurate state, county, municipal place, and special tax jurisdiction information to customer address records. This technology will provide the most current taxation boundary information available through a data update process that continually tracks and updates taxation boundaries statewide.
With GeoTAX, the Comptroller's office - as well as businesses and consumers - will have the benefits of an automated tax jurisdiction assignment solution. The Comptroller anticipates placing online a Web-based resource for citizens, businesses and local governments that can be used to ensure taxes are being accurately determined. GeoTAX represents a major step forward in efficiency for the Comptroller's office by replacing manual processes based on map-based research and utilization of other hard copy information.
“We look forward to working with the Comptroller's office to optimize the tax jurisdiction assignment process,” said Bob Bowen, CEO of Group 1 Software. “We are grateful that Texas is the latest state government to turn to Group 1 to deploy this most important technology.”
