The Principal Financial Group Relies on Group 1 for Enhanced Account Statements

Lanham, MD — Group 1 Software (Nasdaq: GSOF) announced today that The Principal Financial Group, the nation's largest 401(k) service provider, has implemented DOC1 to compose their defined contribution participant statements. The Principal will also be using DOC1 to produce many other customer-focused documents. DOC1 is the fastest way to produce dynamic, easy-to-read, personalized business documents for print and on-line delivery.

"DOC1 has enabled us to develop high quality, customer-friendly statements for our clients," said Susie Thomann, second vice president of Pension Business Systems, The Principal. "We selected DOC1 because it enables us to include full-color dynamic charts and graphs as well as personalized marketing messages on our statements."

"We are excited about providing innovative personalized documents for The Principal, an industry leader in financial services," said Alan Slater, general manager of Group 1's DOC1 Division. "Their selection of DOC1 further solidifies our position as the leading provider of document composition software for the financial services community."

The Principal and Group 1 jointly managed the implementation, which included statement design, application development, and integration with IDF (integrated document factory). DOC1 generates statements for The Principal in Postscript for high-volume, full-color printing and PDF for electronic delivery and presentment. The Principal archives the PDF version of the statement on IBM's OnDemand system, which enables customer care representatives to view an electronic version that exactly matches the customer's printed statement. DOC1 is an easy to use document composition system that facilitates the design and production of attractive, easy-to-read statements, bills and invoices. Currently, over 400 customers worldwide rely on DOC1 to generate millions of customer-focused business documents every day. The DOC1 system allows dynamic document applications to be developed in a WYSIWYG environment on a Windows NT workstation. The DOC1 production engine can run under MVS, Windows NT, Windows 2000, UNIX (Sun Solaris, HP/UX and AIX, DEC UNIX), Open VMS, OS/400 or PC DOS. DOC1 generates XML, PDF, and HTML for Web presentment as well as AFP, HP/PCL, Postscript, Metacode, and line data for high-speed production printing.

Group 1 Software is a leading provider of software for data quality, database marketing, electronic document composition applications, and mailing efficiency and direct marketing applications.
