State of Maryland Selects Group 1’s GeoTAX For Tax Jurisdiction Determination
Lanham, MD — Group 1 Software (Nasdaq: GSOF) today announced that the Maryland State Comptroller's Office has selected Group 1's GeoTAX software system for assignment of tax jurisdictions to taxpayers' residences within Maryland.
GeoTAX is a comprehensive suite of tools that standardizes addresses and appends accurate state, county, municipal place, and special tax jurisdiction information to customer records. GeoTAX ensures the most accurate tax jurisdiction assignment by continually tracking and updating municipal boundary changes and cross-referencing this information to enhanced ZIP codes.
"GeoTAX will enable us to accurately determine a taxpayer's location relative to local jurisdictions, including counties, municipalities, and special tax areas," said George Freyman, Manager of the Revenue Accounting Section, Maryland State Comptroller's Office. "By utilizing an automated software solution, we are increasing our efficiency by not having to allocate staff and resources to manually research tax jurisdiction information."
"We are pleased to be providing this industry-leading solution to the state of Maryland to enable them to more effectively allocate tax dollars to the appropriate local jurisdictions," said Martin Sohovich, GeoTAX Product Manager. "There is great need for state governments to have an automated solution to forecast and allocate tax revenues to local governments."
Used in conjunction with Group 1's address validation and data hygiene products, GeoTAX offers businesses a comprehensive solution for precise tax jurisdiction assignment. GeoTAX runs on IBM mainframes, UNIX, AS/400, and NT servers in batch, interactive, and client-server modes.
Group 1 Software is a leading provider of software for data quality, database marketing, electronic document composition applications, and direct marketing and mailing efficiency applications.
