Group 1 Software Enables Direct Marketers
to Determine Lowest Cost for Parcel Delivery
With New Residential Delivery Indicator Technology
Lanham, MD — Group 1 Software (Nasdaq: GSOF) today announced the availability of its Residential Delivery Indicator (RDI) technology. The RDI file, administered by the United States Postal Service (USPS), enables parcel shippers to determine whether an address is a residence or a business. RDI is utilized in conjunction with Group 1's industry-leading CODE-1 Plus address validation, correction and standardization software solution.
Identifying an address as a business or residence enables parcel shippers to determine the best cost for shipping packages since some delivery services charge a higher price for delivery to a residential address than to a business address. Customers will receive an interface to RDI free-of-charge if they license Delivery Point Validation (DPV)* technology for use with CODE-1 Plus. DPV enables users to verify that an actual address exists, down to the apartment or suite level, thereby reducing undeliverable-as-addressed mail resulting from inaccurate addresses. CODE-1 Plus customers must license the RDI file directly from the USPS.
“Utilizing the RDI file will enable our nearly 2,000 CODE-1 Plus customers to obtain substantial savings by selecting the most cost-efficient method for parcel delivery," said Bob Bowen, CEO of Group 1 Software. “By supporting both RDI and DPV, we are maximizing postal savings and improving deliverability for our CODE-1 Plus customers. As an industry leader, we feel that it is our responsibility to make exciting, innovative programs such as RDI and DPV available to our customers as rapidly as possible.”
“True delivery rates can often be obscured by additional charges - such as residential surcharges - imposed by some delivery providers,” said Nick Barranca, vice president, product development, USPS. “The Postal Service's RDI product is a new, innovative way for customers to make informed decisions about the real cost of shipping and help shippers to avoid residential delivery surcharges.”
Group 1's end-to-end mailing efficiency software solutions let businesses maximize the effectiveness of direct marketing efforts while achieving significant postal discounts.
